New Chancellor

Tim White is extremely well-suited to lead UC Riverside... He has a unique grasp of the mission of land-grant universities and a passion for that mission. His multicultural roots and personal experience with higher education have given him a deep commitment to diversity and inclusiveness. And he has solid experience moving public universities forward by managing them effectively, building trust and cooperation, and forging successful ties and a sense of shared purpose with the external communities they serve. I am delighted to welcome him to the UC.

The Chancellor-designate is clearly a person who is highly experienced in filling the shoes of being a President/Chancellor. There will not be a learning curve while he develops confidence in being our number one leader. His approach to answering questions from the faculty was always thoughtful and well considered. He lets you know what he doesn't know and he also fills-in with detailed responses when the topic under discussion is something that he has an opinion on or which he has had prior experience in. His presence and demeanor made us all relaxed and feel like we were speaking with a fellow faculty member (which he will be when he actually arrives here at UCR for good). I am most optimistic and supportive of Tim White being the leader to take UCR to the next level.

Chancellor White has a very real presence. It is truly similar to many big time athletes and coaches I have had the pleasure of knowing over the years. It is not false. It is who he is. The difference is that his presence is so very well balanced with a warm sense of humor and you get a sense of his commitment to the academic arena, student-centered issues, the City of Riverside - "This IS California!", and tackling problems in a forward moving manner. Another strength I saw was the very strong family/team he has with his wife, Karen, with whom he has obviously shared so very much. We are gaining two highly motivated and experienced leaders to help move UCR forward.
